| Snaffle O Ring SNAFFLE O RING |
1. Copper Inlaid Snaffle
TBBIT40R20 $38.00
The softest of the two O Ring styles, this mouthpiece is 3/8" diameter, 5" wide, and curved to shape the mouth. Inlaid copper promotes salivation and greater sensitivity to the bars and corners of the mouth. Great for starting colts, training, or pleasure riding.
2. Twisted Wire Snaffle
TBBIT40R25 $38.00
A step up from the Copper Inlaid Snaffle, this bit features a 3/8" x 5" stainless steel twisted wire mouthpiece. Each side of the mouthpiece is twisted in opposite directions, so when pressure is applied to either side the horse realizes the same sensation. It creates greater sensitivity to the mouth. Great for training and softening the cornes of the bars of older horses to become more responsive. |
6" Cheek
The six inch cheek has a 2-1/2" purchase and a 3-1/2" chank. This ratio (the difference in the length of the purchase and shan) along with the swept-back design of the shank makes this cheek extremely mild. Contact the the horse's mouth comes slowly in the form of soft pressure to all points of contact. The main point of contact is the corners of the mouth, which is a familiar spot for young horses transitioning to a shank bit from the O Ring. This bit may also be used along with a training fork or martingale for greater control of the poll and nose and for proper collection. Each mouthpiece is inlaid with copper to stimulate salivation. The mouthpiece is 5-1/8" wide, 3/8" in diameter, and properly curved to shape to the corner of the mouth for soft, evenly distributed pressure to the bars, tongue, and corners of the mouth. |
3 Copper Inlaid Snaffle TBBIT6SS20 $66.00
The softest of all shank bit styles, this bit is perfect for moving a colt from an O Ring to a shank bit or for light, well-broke older horses. Soft pressure is applies through the curb to the horse's chin, the bars, corners of the mouth, and the tongue. 4 1 x 1 Rounded Correction TBBIT6SS61 $66.00
A slight step up from the snaffle, this bit applies pressure to the chin, bars, and corners, but applies added pressure to the tongue. This is a good step up for a cold from the 6 inch cheek snaffle. |
7-1/2" Cheek
This 7-1/2" cheek style is the next line up in the tool box. Extremely versitile, it can be used for training drills, pleasure riding, or competition. 5 Copper Inlaid Dogbone Tbbit7SS20 $66.00
The mildest bit in this series, the mouthpiece wraps the tongue when pressure is applied. (pressure is also realized on the chin (due to the curb strap or chin), bars, and corners of the mouth. This bit works well on young horses just moving to a longer shank and on well-broke or light mouthed older horses. Good for lateral pull and collection and commonly used with a training fork or martingale. 6 Copper Inlaid Snaffle TBBIT7SS20 $66.00
A step up in control from the dogbone, this mouth piece with the 7-1/2" shank is one of the most popular bits used by horsemen. The snaffle applies more pressure to the tongue than the dogbone does, giving it a quicker feel and causing a more immediate reponse. The horse also realizes pressure on the chin, bars, and corners of the mouth. This bit is widely used on all horses for all types of riding and training activities. GBood for lateral pull and collection and may be used with a training fork or martingale for increased control of the poll and nose. 7 Copper Inlaid Floating Spade with Copper Roller TBBIT7SS24 $66.00
Sometimes perceived as severe, this mouthpiece is actually fairly mild. It works similar to the dogbone, where the mouthpiece is broken in three places to contact different areas of the mouth. The mouthpiece wraps over the tongue with applied pressure. The top of the spade is rounded and smooth for soft realized pressure on the top of the mouth. This is a great bit to introduce a horse to palate pressure in the transition to ported bits and taller corrections. Pressure is also felt on the chin, bars, and corners of the mouth to contact all possible points of pressure. This bit offers more control than the snaffle mouthpiece. Commonly used in all types of performance events and for training. 8 1" x 1-3/4" Rounded Correction with Copper Inlay TBBIT7SS10 $66.00
Extremely popular with performance riders and trainers from all disciplines, this bit is a step up from the floating spade. The taller port in the mouthpiece creates more pressure to the palate. The mouthpiece wraps the mouth, applying increased pressure to the sides of the tongue. The wrapping effect is also sensed by the corners of the mouth and the bars, while chin pressure results from applied pressure to the curb. Commonly used on finished, well-broke horses used in speed events, roping, cutting, reining, and team penning. Good for collection and stopping. |
8" Calvary Cheek
This final cheek in the Tool Box is designed for the finished, well-broke performance horse or tough mouthed older horses where the rider needs more control. It can be used as a schooling bit to get a horse to collect and brak at the poll that is not responding to milder bits. It is also commonly used in competition in all disciplines, but should not be used all of the time for practice or daily training. The purchase is 2-1/2" and the shank 5-1/2". The calvary designed shank is angled back to the horse, but at a straighter angle than the 7-1/2" model, causing a quicker, more immediate response. The purchase/shank alignment ratio increases leverage, creating greater realized pressure to all points of contact of the mouth and chin. 9 1" x 1-3/4" Rounded Correction with Copper Inlay TBBIT8CS10 $66.00
A step up in leverage and control from the 7-1/2" style, this bit applies increased pressure to the palate, tongue (with increased pressure to the sides of the tongue), chin, bars, and the corners of the mouth. This bit is not typically used in extended training sessions, but often used to school a horse that needs a firmer reminder to respond and collect. It is also used in competition on older or less responsive horses. This is not a bit for lateral flexing excercises, but works well as a stopping or collection tool.
 10 1-1/2" x 2" High Port TBBIT8CS43 $66.00
The final in the series, this bit offers the highest degree of leverage and control. The higher port increases the degree of contact with the palate while offering tongue relief with it's 1-1/2" width. The solid mouthpiece applies additional pressure to the tongue, bars, and corners of the mouth. Chin pressure is also realized by the curb and varies in intensity with the style. This bit is for the finished horse and is a tool for collection. It does not work well for flexing exercises. It is commonly used on well-broke, older horses in competition and for schooling horses to be more responsive. |
